History of Malpas Group of Pharmacies
Geoff and Lorraine welcome you to Malpas Group of Pharmacies.
Geoff took ownership of Malpas Pharmacy in 2003. At the time of the purchase he was the director of a chain of independent chemists in Caerphilly.
At the time, the pharmacy consisted of a single dispensary that assembled approximately 2500 prescription items per month. Geoff managed an original team of 6 members of staff and a single delivery driver who completed just 12 deliveries per week.
As a family run independent pharmacy, Malpas now dispenses in excess 35,000 prescription items per month, as well as providing dispensing services to 13 nursing and residential homes and over 400 community dossett box patients. We have grown from a single dispensary to four bustling departments.

Meet our team at Malpas Group of Pharmacies
Geoff Thomas
Geoff is the owner and Managing Director of the Malpas Group of Pharmacies. Graduating from UWIST, Cardiff, in 1985, Geoff has over 35 years experience as a community pharmacist and contractor.
He began in retail-pharmacy for Boots the Chemist and quickly progressed in management to where he oversaw the opening of the flagship edge-of-town store in Cardiff Bay. He then went on to become Director of a small chain of independent chemists before buying his own premises.
He took ownership of Malpas Pharmacy in 2003 and has grown the business along side his wife, Lorraine, to create the busiest dispensing chemist in Newport. He is also the acting Superintendent Pharmacist.
Lorraine Thomas
Lorraine is the co-owner of the Malpas Group of Pharmacies. She has over 30 years experience in the beauty and pharmaceutical industry. Lorraine worked as a successful medicines sales representative for Astra Zeneca and has a special interest in gastrointestinal and cardiovascular medicine. Lorraine went on to practise as an advanced beauty therapist in both the UK and Australia, before setting up her own business. Lorraine now oversees the HR aspect of the business as well as the creative direction of private services.
Kate Ragu
Kate is a senior pharmacist at Malpas pharmacy. Graduating from the University of Bath in 2004, Kate has extensive experience in retail pharmacy management. She has managed teams in a range of settings from high street stores to high-volume supermarket pharmacies. She has also led large-scale flu vaccination clinics and is passionate about delivering health-intervention services to the community.
Clara McCool
Clara is an independent prescriber and aesthetic pharmacist at Malpas Pharmacy. During her career as a community pharmacist she has held roles in retail management, learning and development and as university lecturer at under graduate level. She currently leads the acute prescribing clinic and is responsible for all of the private aesthetic and wellness services at Malpas Pharmacy.
Ana Ferreria De Almeida
Ana is the independent prescribing pharmacist who leads the team at Malpas Brook Pharmacy. During her time as manager, Ana has grown the business at Malpas Brook exponentially, establishing a prescribing clinic and close links with the surgery. She has over 20 years experience of pharmacy management in both the UK and Portugal, where she owned a ‘Natural Pharmacy’ specialising in complementary therapies. Ana is particularly interested in outreach to the community, having been involved in health educational sessions for primary school children.
Sophie Taylor-Small
Supervisor at Malpas Brook Pharmacy. Pharmacy technician and GPhC accredited checking technician.
Sophie is also an otoscopy and micro-suction specialist.
Jen Edwards & Vicky Charles
Otoscopy and Micro-suction specialists at Malpas Pharmacy. Vicky is also a technician and GPhC accredited checking technician.
Emma Jones
Supervisor at Malpas Pharmacy. Pharmacy technician and GPhC accredited checking technician.
Stephanie Francis
Lead Pharmacy technician for the Nursing Homes Department and GPhC accredited checking technician.
Louisa Passfield
Lead Pharmacy technician for the MDS Department and GPhC accredited checking technician.
Phil Tiso
Driver Co-ordinator and Team Leader for Malpas and Malpas Brook Pharmacies.
